‘I’m curious ABOUT BODY DE-ARMOURING, BUT HOW MIGHT I RESPOND TO A SESSION?’
This is a question I am often asked on a discovery call, so here’s some insight:
In my experience of working with many different people over the years, there are generally 3 responses that can be instigated during a full body de armouring session:
Catharsis - This can be a strong emotional response, such as a somatic memory of a past trauma. A client might start screaming, talking incoherently, shouting, crying, generally going into an activated, triggered response. Depending on the situation I would reassure the client that they are safe and bring their nervous system back into regulation, using grounding and resourcing techniques. I may also go into some inner child work to support the completion of the traumatic cycle and bring them to a safe place where the adult client can be there for their child self.
During the session, a client might go into a dream like sub-conscious state something akin to a yoga nidra where memories and colours come up but time stops. They come out of it feeling quite blissful. Some of my clients have compared this to a medicine journey without the hallucinogens.
The third response that may occur during a de armouring session might be a state of deep relaxation, the client might even fall asleep. Here I can witness micro movements or twitching in the client’s body where energy is moving and the nervous system resetting.
It is possible for a client to experience all 3 states in a session. Whatever comes up is welcomed and I hold space to meet a client where they are ready to be met.
After a session clients feel more spacious in their body, a feeling of lightness and a greater sense of attunement with their sensations. Some experience quite powerful dreams and usually after a few sessions, the nervous system resets meaning it has a wider window of tolerance to challenging life situations which in the past would have negatively activated the body.
